Healthy Start is a 25 minute documentary that showcases a program within the state of California which is
designed to assist communities in solving problems critical to children’s
education. Working with the Healthy
Start staff at their UCDavis field offices, Cinnabar developed a unique approach
to telling the story. Instead of a
narrator-driven script, this story is told by residents from four distinct
communities in California.

In East LA it is the story of how new US citizens are learning to read, learning
principles of community government and how the new confidence by a parent can
mean success for a child in a schoolroom setting.

In the coastal towns of Salinas, it’s a story of parents solving issues of drugs,
violence and teenage pregnancy. In
the Humbolt redwoods of Northern California, we learn how a new town center
built with Healthy Start funds has
changed the previously isolated residents by bringing together seniors citizens,
families and their children at the only school within a 25 mile radius.
